The Prince of Tides Bendback streamer fly is a versatile and effective pattern originally tied by Flip Pallot, primarily for targeting bonefish. However, its design has proven to be exceptionally suitable for shallow water tailing redfish as well. The fly’s body construction can be somewhat challenging, but the result is a reliable addition to any angler’s fly box, especially for those fishing in skinny water flats where redfish feed. Its construction includes an olive base with gold holographic flash, covered with tough mono, making it ideal for gliding through thick turtle grass without making much noise upon entry.
 
When it comes to the saltwater species targeted by the Bendback streamer fly, it’s known for its ability to imitate a wide range of small baitfish. This includes Atlantic silversides, anchovies, sand eels, baby bunker (juvenile menhaden), glass minnows, and more. It’s also a great pattern for redfish or black drum on the flats, or speckled trout over shallow grass beds and potholes. The Bendback’s inverted design, with the hook point nestled within the wing fibers, makes it inherently weedless and less prone to snagging on seagrass.
